FIELD: powder metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a thermomechanical method of compacting powder workpieces as an alternative to hot isostatic pressing of metal powders and can be used in metallurgy and machine-building industries in the manufacture of workpieces and parts from titanium powders. Method includes filling powders into a thin-walled steel tube to obtain an encapsulated workpiece, sealing the encapsulated workpiece, heating with subsequent pressing of the workpiece, wherein the workpiece is placed in a furnace, preheated to temperature of 850°C, and held for 10–15 minutes, then pressing the heated workpiece at pressure of 360–600 MPa, wherein titanium powders are used with hydrogen content of not more than 0.32 wt.%.
EFFECT: obtaining dense material with strength, hardness and low porosity indices not worse than those of the prototype, with lower power and time costs of the technological process.
