FIELD: chemical-pharmaceutical industry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical-pharmaceutical industry, namely to a method for quantitative determination of the amount of saponins in Pennsylvania thorn sprouts. Method for quantitative determination of the total amount of saponins in Pennsylvania thorn sprouts involves a single extraction of the vegetal raw material ground to particle size of 2.0 mm with mixture of 70% ethanol with acetone at ratio of 1:3 at a ratio of the weighed portion of the raw material and the volume of extractant of 1:100 in a boiling water bath with a reflux condenser for 45 minutes, reaction with acidified water to pH 1, filtering the saponin precipitate, drying, dissolving in 1:1 ammonia buffer-water mixture, measuring optical density at wavelength 214 nm and calculating the total content of saponins.

EFFECT: method described above has high accuracy of determining saponins in Pennsylvania thorn sprouts.
