FIELD: medicine; orthopedics; traumatology.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for treating osteomyelitis of various origins. At the first stage, the joint is resected; a temporary antibacterial endoprosthesis containing the antibiotic vancomycin and/or gentamycin is inserted. After the infectious process is stopped, the second stage of treatment involves the installation of a permanent metal endoprosthesis by means of a surgical operation. After the infection is stopped and the permanent endoprosthesis is installed, the patient undergoes physiotherapeutic procedures that include exercises and massage. In addition, the first stage includes control points, at which the infection reduction is checked, and if the infection is reduced, then the second stage is carried out, wherein the control points are the following points: 1 month, 3 months and 6 months. During the first stage, a course of antibacterial therapy for up to two months is carried out taking into account the infectious agent, and the maximum duration of the first stage is 6 months. Joint is a knee joint or a hip joint, and osteomyelitis is of hematogenous or posttraumatic genesis.
EFFECT: method enables preserving extremity function, effective infection control and accelerated rehabilitation of the patient due to the fact that the installation of the temporary endoprosthesis allows the patient to preserve the function of the extremity during treatment, the two-stage approach using the temporary endoprosthesis enables more complete removal of infectious tissues.
