FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of bainitic rails. Method includes production of steel containing wt.%: carbon 0.30–0.40, manganese 1.20–1.70, silicon 0.80–1.50, aluminum <0.004, phosphorus <0.020, sulfur <0.020, chromium 1.20–1.50, nickel 1.00–2.50, vanadium 0.10–0.30, nitrogen 0.01–0.02, hydrogen <2 ppm, iron—the rest, steel casting at continuous casting machine, thereafter, the steel billet is heated, rolled to produce a rail, and the rail is cooled in still air from rolling end temperature to room temperature. After cooling the steel rail in still air, low-temperature tempering is performed, including reheating of the steel rail to temperature of 180–350 °C, holding at preset temperature for at least 60 minutes and subsequent cooling in still air with provision of additional decay of residual austenite and formation of new bainite sections.
EFFECT: obtaining rails having the required combination of high strength and hardness, as well as plasticity and impact strength at low temperatures.
