FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing vanadium pentoxide from vanadium oxytrichloride, a by-product of spongy titanium production. Method of producing vanadium pentoxide involves decomposition of vanadium oxytrichloride with an alkaline solution to obtain sodium metavanadate pulp, filtration of the obtained sodium metavanadate pulp with separation of the precipitate, crystallisation of ammonium metavanadate, holding while stirring the pulp formed during crystallisation, ammonium metavanadate precipitate is separated from the mother solution, washed, dried and calcined to obtain vanadium pentoxide. During crystallisation of ammonium metavanadate, a prepared solution of ammonium chloride is poured into the sodium metavanadate solution. Starting components for preparing the ammonium chloride solution are 25% aqueous ammonia solution, into which, while continuously stirring, 35% hydrochloric acid is added at a weight ratio of 1:1 until pH of solution is 7–8.
EFFECT: method increases content of vanadium pentoxide in the finished product to 99_6% and reduces content of regulated impurities.
