FIELD: inorganic compounds technology. SUBSTANCE: method involves decomposition of vanadium oxytrichloride, by-product in spongy titanium production, in alkali solution, addition of ammonium- containing inorganic compound, separation of ammonium metavanadate, washing and calcinations thereof to give target product. In particular, alkali solution is 1-3 N sodium carbonate solution, after addition of which a mineral acid is added to pH 1-2, followed by heating to 50-100 C, keeping solution at this temperature for 1-3 h, neutralizing it by alkali reagent to pH 6-8, and pouring it into solution of ammonium-containing inorganic compound, for instance into ammonium chloride and/or nitrate solution. EFFECT: reduced residual concentration of vanadium in mother solution of ammonium metavanadate thereby reducing environmental pollution. 4 cl, 1 tbl, 4 ex
