FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing a diene, involving dehydration of at least one alkenol in the presence of at least one catalytic material containing at least one acidic catalyst based on silicon dioxide (SiO2) and aluminium oxide (Al2O3). Said catalyst has an aluminium oxide (Al2O3) content of less than or equal to 12% by weight, wherein said aluminium oxide content is calculated with respect to the total weight of the catalyst without a binder, and the modal pore diameter is between 9 nm and 170 nm.
EFFECT: catalyst has a long service life and is suitable in a wide range of ratios of alkenols and diluent.
