FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of producing 1,3-butadiene, comprising feeding mixture containing 1,3-butanediol and water into an evaporator, wherein said water is present in an amount greater than or equal to 5 wt% relative to the total weight of said mixture, to obtain: a gas stream containing 1,3-butanediol coming from above from said evaporator; feeding said gas stream to a first reactor comprising at least one first dehydration catalyst to obtain an alkenol stream containing alkenols and water coming from said first reactor; feeding said alkenol stream to a second reactor comprising at least one second dehydration catalyst to obtain a butadiene stream containing 1,3-butadiene and water coming from said second reactor; feeding said butadiene stream to a second purification section to obtain: a stream containing pure 1,3-butadiene; and (i) a stream containing water. Also disclosed is another version of the method of producing 1,3-butadiene.
EFFECT: overcome loss of high energy consumption due to heat required to remove virtually all water and to separate other impurities present, especially for separation of impurities having approximately the same boiling point as 1,4-butanediol or 1,3-butanediol.
