FIELD: measuring equipment.
SUBSTANCE: physical basis of the method when inspecting welds consists in remote observation from an unmanned aerial vehicle of the longitudinal electric resistance of the skin layer of an electromagnetic wave in the pipeline wall during irradiation with radio waves. Change in electric resistance of welds is marked in receiver of onboard radar by step of amplitude and phase of radio signal from antenna output in form of half-wave dipole oriented parallel to pipeline axis. Insulation failure is marked by the amplitude and phase of the radio signal received from the half-wave dipole perpendicular to the axis of the pipeline. Position of the pipeline axis in the ground is marked by the time derivative of the envelope of the radio signal received from the receiving dipole parallel to the axis of the pipeline.
EFFECT: invention can be used to control condition of welded seams and insulation of pipelines.
