FIELD: powder metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hard alloys based on tungsten carbide with binder doped with rhenium for finishing hard-to-machine materials. It can be used for processing alloys based on refractory metals, heat-resistant, corrosion-resistant steels and alloys. Hard alloy for machining hard-to-machine materials contains tungsten carbide and 6 wt.% of binder containing 52–55 wt.% of rhenium, the rest is cobalt. Hardness of alloy is not less than 91 HRA, ultimate bending strength is not less than 1,176 MPa. Bending strength and hardness are quantitatively related to volumetric content of binder (Vb) and/or carbide phase (Vc) by the following ratios: σout=53.0Vb[vol. %]+936.3=53(100−Vc)[vol. %]+936.3 [MPa], H=−0.419Vb[vol. %]+93.67=−0.419(100−Vc)[vol. %]+93.67 [HRA].
EFFECT: higher durability of tools during finishing hard-to-machine materials.
