FIELD: powder metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hard alloys based on tungsten carbide with binder alloyed with rhenium for rough machining of hard-to-machine materials. It can be used for processing alloys based on refractory metals, heat-resistant, corrosion-resistant steels and alloys. Tungsten carbide-based hard alloy for rough cutting of hard-to-machine materials contains tungsten carbide and 13 wt.% of binder containing 52–55 wt.% of rhenium, the rest is cobalt. Hardness of alloy is not less than 88 HRA, ultimate bending strength is not less than 1,617 MPa. Ultimate bending strength (σout) and hardness (H) of alloy are related to volume content of binder (Vb) and/or carbide phase (Vc), which determine alloy composition, by the following ratios: σout=53.0Vb [vol. %]+936.3=53(100−Vc) [vol. %]+936.3 [MPa]; H=−0.419Vb [vol. %]+93.67=−0.419(100−Vc) [vol. %]+93.67 [HRA].
EFFECT: ensures increased tool life during rough machining of hard-to-machine materials.
