FIELD: electricity; neutron flux cooling.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of cooling a neutron flow and a device for its implementation and can be used to cool neutrons to ultra-low temperatures, T<2 mK. Cooling of neutrons is carried out using a reflector. Reflector is a traveling second sound wave in liquid helium II, the period of which is λs is twice shorter than the neutron wavelength λn, and the difference in the speed of neutrons and double speed of the reflector is less than the boundary speed at which neutrons are still held in the gravitational trap. Direction of movement of the reflector coincides with the direction of movement of neutrons. Device is equipped with a container with liquid helium II. A periscope system is used to introduce neutrons into the container. Wherein the traveling wave radiator of the second sound is located below the surface of liquid helium II, and the reflector is a traveling second sound wave in liquid helium II with a uniform spatial period and moves only in the direction of the neutron velocity.
EFFECT: increase in the number of neutrons captured in a gravitational lead trap.
