FIELD: production, accumulation, and storage of ultracold neutrons. SUBSTANCE: process is based on moderation of neutrons in low-temperature moderator cooled down by liquid helium. Pulse source such as accelerator, pulse reactor, is used as neutron source. Ultracold neutrons produced in the process are accumulated in catcher until their densities inside low- temperature moderator and catcher become equal whereupon pulse source of thermal neutrons is turned off and catcher space holding ultracold neutrons is isolated from low-temperature moderator; after the latter is cooled down to initial temperature, thermal neutron pulse is repeated. EFFECT: provision for using high currents of thermal neutrons in reactor.
