FIELD: foundry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to foundry. Casting multilayer shell mould for production of spherical metal castings by investment patterns comprises thin-wall facing, inner intermediate and outer external layers. In the facing and adjacent inner intermediate layers of the shell mould pouring gate there are annular grooves. When pouring a spherical shell mould with liquid metal, the facing layer of the mould is subjected to considerable compressive stresses arising from the impossibility of increasing in volume from thermal shock. Annular grooves in facing and adjacent layers on pouring gate play the role of expansion joints. Surface layer of metal can expand into cavity of grooves and thereby remove peak temperature load from surface layer.
EFFECT: increasing the crack resistance of the shell mould when pouring liquid metal and the beginning of cooling of the solidifying casting.
