SUBSTANCE: present invention provides an apparatus for forming images, a control method and a process cartridge microcircuit. At least one process cartridge is mounted on the image forming apparatus; imaging apparatus comprises a data control unit and a mechanism control unit; and both the mechanism control unit and the data control unit are capable of communicating with the process cartridge microcircuit. Method includes the following stages: after the mechanism control unit completes the start-up, and before the data control unit completes the start-up, sending a response message to the mechanism control unit, where the response message is configured to determine whether a replacement event occurs in at least one process cartridge; and the result of determining whether the replacement event occurs in the at least one process cartridge is configured to determine whether the predetermined imaging preparation operation has been performed before the data control unit completes the start-up.
