SUBSTANCE: apparatus has a main controller which controls operation of the image forming apparatus; a replaceable unit mounted in the main unit to communicate with the main controller through a serial interface - customer replaceable unit monitoring (CRUM) chip, wherein the main controller of the main unit transmits information on using consumable materials used in the image forming apparatus to the CRUM chip through a serial interface, where a CPU performs initialisation of the replaceable unit and updates status information stored in the memory unit based on the information on the used consumable materials transmitted from the main controller.
