FIELD: fibre-optic technologies.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to fibre-optic technologies, in particular to the field of collimation or focusing of optical radiation propagating in an optical fibre. Device for collimating or focusing optical radiation propagating in an optical fibre comprises placed in an adhesive-filled tooling and coaxially interconnected section of optical fibre and a gradient lens, which is a section of a multimode gradient optical fibre with a quartz cladding diameter corresponding to the diameter of the quartz cladding of the optical fibre connected to it, and the output end of the multimode gradient optical fibre is polished, said fibres are connected to each other by electric arc welding and are placed along the adhesive-filled tooling. At that, the length of the section of the multimode gradient optical fibre placed inside the tooling is calculated by the formula

where P is the pitch of the gradient lens, Nclad is the refraction index at the core-cladding interface of the multimode gradient optical fibre, Ncore is the maximum refraction index of the core of the multimode gradient optical fibre, rcore is the radius of the core of the multimode gradient optical fibre.
EFFECT: high efficiency of collimating or focusing optical radiation.
