FIELD: electric power industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to devices and elements of electric power industry, namely to multi-modular arresters for protection of overhead power transmission lines against atmospheric overvoltage. Spark gaps are located in three planes at angle of 90° relative to each other. Multimodal arrester for protection of overhead power transmission lines from atmospheric overvoltage contains discharge modules strung on a bearing rod, made in the form of round plates with a semicircular cutout and containing electrodes. Bearing rod with discharge modules is crimped on both sides by end terminals, at the ends of which there are threaded holes, at the same time the discharge modules are installed on the bearing rod with a semicircular cutout directed in one direction to the insulator, forming a discharge chamber, and such that between adjacent plates local spark gaps are formed, located in three planes at angle of 90° relative to each other.
EFFECT: improvement of arcing properties of the arrester with an increased value of the follow quenching current parameter at overvoltage on the line, which in turn provides higher efficiency of protection of overhead power transmission lines from atmospheric overvoltage and safety during operation of overhead power transmission lines as a whole.
