SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing mineral wool. Said method includes steps of providing a mixture of starting materials; melting said mixture of starting materials in order to obtain molten material; and converting the molten material into fibers. Chemical composition of mineral wool includes, wt.%: SiO2 30–50, Al2O3 15–35, CaO 5–25, MgO 1–25, Fe2O3 2–15, Na2O + K2O > 10. Mixture of starting materials is present in powder form and contains at least 8.5 wt.% of recycled starting material containing at least 3 wt.% of magnesium in terms of weight of oxide, and at most 5 wt.% of carbonates.
EFFECT: improved processability, melt bath quality and mineral wool properties, reduced CO2 emissions.
