FIELD: measuring.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and a device for determining the size and velocity of particles from intensity of scattered light in real time. A system which implements a method of measuring particle sizes and velocities based on high-speed recording of the shape of a backscattered signal of a light beam of a known profile and processing by machine learning using calibration data, is characterized by that it includes: liquid sprayer, which enables to obtain a chain of particles close to a spherical shape, source of incoherent light, which enables to create a focused elliptical Gaussian beam of light, detector installed so that to track and catch light scattered by particles passing through a Gaussian light beam of elliptical shape, converter of light scattering signals to voltage signals, each frame of which comprises an ensemble of separate light scattering signals; computing device implementing a classifier based on a trained convolutional neural network.
EFFECT: simpler design and higher speed and accuracy of determining particle size and speed.
