FIELD: data processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of encoding an image with contour filtering control. Result is achieved by the fact that information required for controlling in-loop filtering performed on virtual boundaries can be effectively signaled by an encoding device, wherein the image information includes a sequence parameter set (SPS) and picture header information referencing the SPS, and the information relating to the virtual boundaries includes a virtual boundary enable flag, wherein the SPS includes an SPS virtual boundary presence flag based on the virtual boundary enable flag, wherein the value of the SPS virtual boundary presence flag is determined based on whether signaling of information relating to virtual boundaries is present in the SPS or in the picture header information. Value of the flag for enabling virtual boundaries is determined based on whether the process of in-loop filtration by virtual boundaries is enabled, and the value of the SPS virtual boundary presence flag is determined to be 1 based on the case when information relating to the virtual boundaries is included in the SPS.
EFFECT: high efficiency of image/video compression.
