FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for manufacturing a catalyst carrier based on aluminum oxide and bismuth for use in controlling emissions of waste (exhaust) gases, to a catalyst support based on aluminum oxide and bismuth, obtained by the method according to the invention, and to a catalyst support based on aluminum oxide and bismuth, having specific characteristics. Described is a catalyst support based on aluminum oxide and bismuth, which is used in catalytic control of exhaust gas emissions, comprising: i) at least 80 wt.% of material based on transition aluminum oxide; and ii) from 1 wt.% to 20 wt.% of bismuth oxide, characterized by value of crystallinity CBi below 10, where the crystallinity value is determined from the X-ray diffraction pattern of the catalyst support based on aluminum oxide and bismuth using Cu K-alpha radiation, and using Equation 1, where I28: Reflex intensity is about 28°; I24: Baseline intensity near the reflex is about 24°; I67: Reflex intensity is about 67°; I72: Baseline intensity near the reflex is about 72°; mBi: mass of Bi2O3/(mass of Bi2O3 + mass of material based on transition aluminum oxide). Method of producing said catalyst support based on aluminum oxide and bismuth includes the following steps: i) obtaining an aluminum-containing composition, where the aluminum-containing composition includes boehmite or aluminum oxide containing silicon dioxide; ii) obtaining an aqueous bismuth solution, wherein the aqueous bismuth solution contains a bismuth salt and a base containing nitrogen, and has a pH value of 4 to 9; iii) bringing the aluminum-containing composition into contact with an aqueous solution of bismuth to form an intermediate product of aluminum and bismuth, wherein the contacting is carried out: in the case of process step i) involving an aluminum-containing composition comprising boehmite, by mixing an aluminum-containing composition in form of a dried powder or in form of a suspension with an aqueous solution of bismuth to form an intermediate product of aluminum and bismuth, or in the case of process step i) involving an aluminum-containing composition comprising aluminum oxide containing silicon dioxide, by impregnating an aluminum-containing composition in form of a dried powder with an aqueous solution of bismuth to form an intermediate product of aluminum and bismuth, and iv) calcining the aluminum and bismuth intermediate to form an alumina and bismuth catalyst support. Also described is the use of said catalyst support based on aluminum oxide and bismuth as a support for an oxidation catalyst. CBi=[(I28−I24)/(I67−I72)]/mBi (Equation 1).
EFFECT: creation of an improved carrier based on aluminum oxide and bismuth, which is used in catalysis for controlling emissions, with improved characteristics.
