FIELD: data processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods and systems for generating a binaural signal in response to a multi-channel input audio signal by applying a binaural room impulse response (BRIR) to each channel from a plurality of channels of that input signal. Disclosed virtualisation method for generating a binaural signal in response to channels of a multichannel audio input applies BRIR to each channel, which involves using at least one feedback delay network (FDN) for applying a common late reverberation to the downmixed signal of the channels. In some embodiments, input channels are processed in a first data processing channel to apply to each channel part of direct characteristic and early reflections of single-channel BRIR for this channel, and the mixed signal of these channels is subjected to processing in a second data processing channel comprising at least one FDN using a common late reverberation. Common late reverberation emulates the collective macroscopic features of the late reverberation portions of at least some of the single-channel BRIR characteristics. Also disclosed is a system for generating a binaural signal in response to a number of channels of a multichannel input audio signal and a non-volatile machine-readable data medium.
EFFECT: providing a simple and unified infrastructure for supporting both input audio signals consisting of speaker channels and input audio signals on an object basis.
