SUBSTANCE: invention relates to balancers—preventive or play means, which help to fix motor functions, maintain balance and maintain a strictly vertical position of the body, and enables to quantitatively assess the ability of the person being tested to maintain a strictly vertical position during the observation interval. Testing of the person being tested is carried out using a platform containing an inertial sensor with a three-axis microelectromechanical accelerometer. Method for assessing the quality of holding the vertical position is based on forming an indicator characterizing the ability of the person being tested to maintain balance. To estimate this indicator, the average angular deviation from the vertical is measured during the time of holding the vertical position Δφ, root-mean-square deviation of intrinsic noise of the measuring device σn is estimated and the maximum eigenvalue Lmax of the covariance matrix C for the projections of the measurement vector v on the azimuthal plane is determined. Index characterizing quality of vertical position retention is calculated by formula: γ=Δφλmax1/2n. Measurements of the vector v are carried out using a three-axis microelectromechanical accelerometer with known scaling factors and constant shifts for each of the sensitivity axes.

EFFECT: development of a numerical criterion of quality of maintaining balance, taking into account characteristics of sensitive elements of a balancing platform.
