FIELD: wireless communication.
SUBSTANCE: technical result is achieved by the fact that at the base station (BS) the association between synchronization signals (SS/PBCH) and reference signals of channel state information (CSI-RS) is pre-configured, wherein each SS/PBCH corresponds to one of beams, which can be used by base station for DL transmission, and transmitting, by the base station, the pre-configured association to the user equipment (UE); corresponding SS/PBCH are transmitted from BS in at least some of beams. Measurements of the received SS/PBCH are performed on the user equipment (UE), one or more SS/PBCHs are selected based on the measurement results and a message on the one or more selected SS/PBCHs (MAC CE report) is transmitted to the base station via L2 signalling; when receiving control information from the BS, identified as the ACK of receiving the MAC CE report, a first UE timer of a first predetermined duration (T1) is started, wherein after the control information is transmitted to the UE, a first BS timer of duration T1 is started. Upon expiry of T1, based on the preconfigured association, switching to the subsequent CSI-RS estimation corresponding to the selected SS/PBCH is performed, and at the BS, based on the preconfigured association, performing the re-configuration for the UE CSI-RSs corresponding to the selected SS/PBCH as those CSI-RSs to be used by the UE for evaluation; CSI-RS transmitted from BS are received at UE. When receiving a CSI request from a BS, a CSI is generated at UE based on an estimate of the received CSI-RS and the generated CSI is transmitted to the BS.
EFFECT: reduction of signalling overhead costs due to considerable reduction of high-level signalling (RRC) usage when performing beamforming in the downlink (DL) and corresponding reduction of implementation complexity at the base station side.
