FIELD: tobacco industry.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the field of testing rod-shaped articles of the cigarette industry. Method of inspecting rod-shaped articles of the cigarette industry, each of which has a side surface and two end sides located at opposite ends of the article, wherein the rod-shaped article comprises a smokable material located between the two end sides, comprising the following steps: a) irradiating the side surface of the at least one inspected rod-shaped article with a reference light such that the reference light at least partially penetrates the rod-shaped article through the side surface and at least partially exits the rod-shaped article through the end face; b) registration of the control light coming out of the end side of the inspected rod-shaped article, by means of the associated with this end side and providing the reception of the control light of the electrooptical receiver, the main direction of sight of which is directed to the end side; c) evaluation of the reference light escaping from the end face and registered by the electrooptic receiver. At that, checking a group of rod-shaped products arranged in several tiers, consisting of located in a row next to each other rod-shaped products, end faces of which on opposite ends of these articles form two corresponding opposite sides of the group of articles.

EFFECT: enabling reliable inspection of rod-shaped articles, whose ends or end sides are visually indistinguishable or not sufficiently distinguishable.
