FIELD: textile industry. SUBSTANCE: method for detection of defects in fabric manufactured by circular knitting machine or circular fabric machine includes control of web, at least, on the strip-like section located across the direction of rotation of knitted fabric by electrooptical method with the help of measuring contact scanning means, detection of defects by the result of analysis of output signals of contact control, revealing of defect type and formation of control action onto the machine to make it stop and produce signal. In so doing, output signals of contact scanning means are combined in groups. These signals of defect are multiply analyzed for identification of point and/or linear defect. Used as criteria of defect analysis are limit values of defect signal amplitude, limit values of duration of defect signal, combined appearance of signals or their periodic repetition in each revolution of machine. Depending on the result of analysis, control action is formed onto the machine to make it stop and produce signal. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 15 cl, 9 dwg
