SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to therapy and cardiology. Following parameters are determined in the patient during the clinical-laboratory and instrumental examination: Charlson comorbidity index, expressed in points, value of C-reactive protein, expressed in milligrams per litre, and the area of the right atrium, expressed in square centimeters. Probability of developing atrial fibrillation (p) is calculated by original formula in %. If p > 19%, a high probability of developing atrial fibrillation is predicted.

EFFECT: method enables higher accuracy of prediction of probability of atrial fibrillation and classification by degree of risk of atrial fibrillation in comorbid patients with arterial hypertension and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease receiving treatment in hospital.
