FIELD: agriculture; biotechnology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to agricultural biotechnology, in particular to sheep breeding, and can be used to assess genetic potential of sheep at the early stage of postembryonic ontogenesis. Disclosed is a method for assessing the genetic potential of lambs by the complex of genes GH, CAST and GDF9. Method involves blood sampling from a jugular vein, amplification of a DNA fragment in amount of 20 mcl: 17 mcl reaction mixture + 3 mcl DNA; 15 mcl reaction mixture + 5 mcl DNA on a four-channel programmable thermal cycler "Tertsik" using a set of "GenePakPCRCore" for polymerase chain reaction, primers GH 277 bp - F:5'- (SEQ ID NO: 1) - 3' and R:5'- (SEQ ID NO: 2) - 3', CAST 622 bp - F:5'- (SEQ ID NO: 3) and R:5'- (SEQ ID NO: 4) - 3), GDF9 (462 bp) - F:5' - (SEQ ID NO: 5) - 3' and R:5'- (SEQ ID NO: 6) - 3'; number and length of restriction fragments is determined in 2.0-4.0 % agarose gel by gel electrophoresis under UV light in the presence of ethidium bromide. Genetic potential of lambs includes lamb growth rate, average daily gain, taste and marbling of meat, and it is assessed positively in relation to lambs by carriage of homozygous CASTNN, GHBB and CDF9AA genotypes.

EFFECT: method makes it possible to carry out lifetime selection of animals with increased meat productivity, to increase number of population of specialized meat sheep, to increase production of marbled mutton.
