FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for determination of linear resolution on terrain of an infrared system of an aircraft. Essence of the invention is that on the ground along and across the flight path of an aircraft equipped with an infrared system, dashed resolution test charts are laid out, which are sheets of sheet material from iron, then, with a priori specified values of altitude and flight course of aircraft, performing aerial survey of terrain sections with arranged dashed resolution test charts, images are processed and linear resolution on the terrain of the aircraft infrared system is calculated as the arithmetic mean of the values of estimates obtained by all decoder operators on all images of the resolution test charts, each of which is the minimum width of the dash in the recognized groups of dashes, in which all strokes are observed separately along their entire length, wherein simultaneously with aerial survey of aircraft flying over dashed resolution test chart, temperature difference between dashed resolution test chart line and background is measured; linear resolution is calculated on terrain of infrared system with allowance for temperature of dashed resolution test chart.

EFFECT: high accuracy of estimating linear resolution on terrain of infrared systems of manned and unmanned aerial vehicles.
