FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to non-ferrous metallurgy, namely to design of electrolysis unit and method of aluminium or its alloys refining. Device comprises a bath with bottom and side blocks for molten aluminium or aluminium alloy and molten refined aluminium or molten refined aluminium alloy, porous membrane impregnated with electrolyte, impermeable for molten aluminium or aluminium alloy with electropositive impurities and molten refined aluminium or molten refined aluminium alloy and permeable for electrolyte and aluminium cations, for separation of molten aluminium or aluminium alloy with electropositive impurities, used as anode with anode current lead, and molten refined aluminium or molten refined aluminium alloy as cathode with cathode current tap. Porous membrane is placed in the bath vertically with the possibility of dividing the bath into containers with anode and cathode aluminium or aluminium alloy, wherein the upper part of the porous membrane is equipped with a reservoir for ensuring the membrane impregnation with an electrolyte, and in the lower part the membrane is fixed on a support made of a non-electrically conductive material, the bath contains a removable cover placed in its upper part and made of a heat-insulating material, wherein the anode and cathode current-conducting rods are made of copper.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to reduce working voltage of electrolyzer and to reduce specific power consumption.
