FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to ophthalmology, and can be used to predict the outcome of anti-VEGF therapy of vascular retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) detachments. Primary optical coherence tomography (OCT) of a patient diagnosed with neovascular age-related macular degeneration with vascular RPE detachment above 200 mcm involves analysing complex of 7 biomarkers of external retinal layers: maximum RPE detachment height; maximum prevalence of RPE detachment; presence of subretinal fluid; presence of hyperreflective content under the RPE; RPE detachment profile – rounded or bumpy; presence of defects in the retinal pigment epithelium layer and the ellipsoidal zone; presence, number and size of hyperreflective inclusions in retinal layers – from external nuclear to internal plexiform. Combination of the obtained biomarkers is used to predict the anatomical outcome of the therapy.
EFFECT: method enables optimizing the anti-angiogenic therapy regimen to prevent developing RPE rupture accompanied by visual acuity reduction by determining quantitative and qualitative biomarkers visualized on primary OCT scans.
