FIELD: cosmonautics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to space engineering, in particular for controlling the movement of the centre of mass of low-orbit spacecraft, including in the lower range of orbit heights, in which gaseous environment can be used as working medium in correcting propulsion system. Method of controlling movement of centre of mass of low-orbit spacecraft uses ramjet engine with helicon plasma source, in which the ambient gas intake is provided with a device with a low midship section, ionisation process in the gas-discharge chamber is provided both in the main mode on ambient gases and in the critical mode using insignificant reserves of the mass of the working medium on board the spacecraft, for example, in the form of xenon (or krypton), wherein ion-optical system is used to control spacecraft thrust and neutralization of space charge of accelerated ion flow is provided.
EFFECT: higher reliability and longer lifespan of the spacecraft while ensuring high efficiency of its operation.
