FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of neutralizing a natural gas odorant and blocking the release of its vapour during uncontrolled spillage. Method involves preparation of 10% aqueous solution of chlorinated lime or sodium hypochlorite, neutralization of the odorant with the prepared solution, digging up the soil, removing the soil from the spill site to a specially designated area, filling the area where the soil was removed with sand or soil. At the same time the method is characterized by the fact that immediately after the bottling the odorant is preserved with a mixture of any hydrocarbons obtained during direct oil distillation at atmospheric pressure, with a boiling point at least 40 degrees higher than the odorant boiling point and with a kinematic viscosity of not more than 4.6 mm2/s, and after removal of soil from spill site in a specially designated place is burnt. At that, the soil digging is performed after preservation, a specially designated place for the soil removal from the spill site is a place outside the gas distribution station territory, equipped for its burning, aqueous solution of bleaching powder or sodium hypochlorite additionally contains at least 3% of any surfactant, and it is prepared after the preserved soil burning, the odorant contained in the burnt soil is neutralized with the prepared solution, solution is decanted, place of soil removal is backfilled with the same soil after its neutralization with aqueous solution of chlorinated lime or sodium hypochlorite.

EFFECT: improving the safety and efficiency of the method for neutralizing natural gas odorants and blocking the release of its vapours during an uncontrolled spill.
