FIELD: measuring.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to diagnostics and prediction of shell-type metal structures state and can be used for evaluation of residual life and frequency of inspection of metal structures of pressure vessels and apparatus in oil and gas, petrochemical and oil refining industry. Deviations of shell structure shell from roundness are measured to define potential destruction zone by maximum magnitude of measured parameter. At that, around the shell at least in one measured radial plane of the shell section along its perimeter with a gap from the shell walls installing the circular reference ring, measuring the shell from the roundness initial values of deviations, then performing deformation of said vessel, loading it with internal pressure, radial velocity of shell wall movement is used as a measured parameter, and during the shell deformation process the radial movement speed on the reference ring is measured, its maximum value is determined, as per which location of the potential shell destruction zone is determined.
EFFECT: high reliability of determining the destruction zone of the shell of a cylindrical steel vessel.
