FIELD: devices for building up ultrahigh pressures. SUBSTANCE: device has punches mounted coaxially and secured by means of supporting rings with central working taper inserts made of superhard material which are received by central grooves provided on bearing portion of punches and container with specimen located between working inserts. Parts of inserts located in grooves of punches are cylindrical in shape; inserts are mounted in grooves with a slide fit and height of projecting portion is determined by formula given in description. Device may be provided with cylindrical insert whose height is equal to 0.4-0.7 of its diameter. Device may be also provided with insert whose taper angle is equal to 40-70 deg relative to vertical axis. EFFECT: increased level of generated pressures and increased service life.
