FIELD: performance of physic-chemical experiments; synthesis of superhard and ultrahard materials at high pressure and temperature. SUBSTANCE: proposed device includes matrix with through central hole where two pistons are located coaxially and cell with specimen between working surfaces of pistons; their working part contains superhard material; parts of pistons projecting from matrix are provided with supporting rings; pistons have taper holes in their centers for receiving sectional inserts. Some inserts directed toward specimen by their larger diameter are made from superhard materials; their height ranges from 1/3 to 1/2 of total height of inserts. Working part of each piston is made in form of segment of paraboloid or segment of ellipsoid or spherical segment; height of working part of each piston ranges from 25 to 45% of height of matrix. Cell is made from two rings: outer ring is made from material possessing lower modulus of volume elasticity as its center. Device is provided with second compression stage for supporting the pistons, compression stage is made in form of circular recesses in matrix and circular projections in pistons. Heating the specimen is effected by passing electric current through and/or specimen. EFFECT: possibility of performing thermobaric treatment of specimens to pressure of 22 GPa and temperatures of at least 1200 C. 4 cl, 1 dwg
