FIELD: organic chemistry, analytical chemistry. SUBSTANCE: method involves the use of new reagent - 2(5)-(p-aminophenyl)-5(2)-phenylpyrimidine of the general formula (I) where: a) R1 - H at R2-NH2 or b) R1-NH2 and R1 - H. Analysis involves treatment of an analyzed sample with the indicated reagent in dimethylformamide solution followed by photometry. Precision of assay is 99.8%. Synthesis of Ia is carried out from sodium methylate and trimethine salt in methanol medium by heating at 80-90 C for 3 h followed by separation of Ia after cooling, yield is 96.7%, m. p. is 199-200 C. Synthesis of Ib is carried out from hydroxylamine sulfate, aqueous 25% NH3 and dioxane in the presence of CuBr at heating in autoclave at 160 C for 20 h followed by separation of Ib, yield is 93%, m. p. is 162-168 C.
