FIELD: hydro-acoustic engineering, possible use for passively determining distance to noise-producing target during spreading of hydro-acoustic signals in the sea.

SUBSTANCE: method for determining distance to radiation source in noise direction-finding mode is based on measuring difference between times of arrival of hydro-acoustic noise signal in two spatial channels and determining mutual correlation of noise incoming at receivers. For fixed values of difference of time of arrival in given band of frequencies, spatial scale of coherence and period of signal interference are measured simultaneously and on basis of measured values, distance to radiation source is determined.

EFFECT: increased precision of determining during movement of carrier watercraft by excluding influence from its own native noises.
