FIELD: nuclear physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of determining density and radioisotope composition of fission-fragment products contaminating an area and formed as a result of a nuclear explosion or emissions from atomic industry plants, from an aeroplane (helicopter) or automobile, is based on measuring radiation energy of contaminating products using a spectrometre. The spectrometre registers separate gamma-ray lines. Gamma-ray intensity at any energy is measured using two detectors in two known solid angles and, knowing height on which measurement is taken and efficiency of the detectors, "penetration coefficient" is determined, from which density of contamination of the area with the given isotope is determined.
EFFECT: identification of a range of equilibrium isotopes with quantitative determination of their density.
