FIELD: induction hardening. SUBSTANCE: steel workpiece is surface-hardened by moving A. C. induction coil successively across its length then immediately cooling the heated portion of said workpiece. In the meantime bending of workpiece subjected to hardening is controlled by monitoring rectilinearity of workpiece and using obtained information for controlling heating and cooling temperatures so as to produce a thicker layer of hardened material on convex side of every bend thus creating a straightening moment designed to eliminate the bend. The device for realization of the above method comprises induction coil with cooling channels connected with flexible pipes, all these elements being installed on connecting buses. Located directly under induction coil is cooling ring with a plurality of holes for delivery of cooling fluid flowing from flexible pipe onto the workpiece. This part of device is, in turn, combined with unit for monitoring and controlling rectilinearity of workpiece as described above.
