FIELD: microbiological industry. SUBSTANCE: new strain Streptomyces virginae VKPM S-1046 is obtained by multistep selection from the natural strain Streptomyces virginae ATCC 13161 by ultraviolet irradiation. Morphological, cultural, physiological and biochemical properties are described. Grown spores of strain are cultured on fermenting medium at 25 C for 22-24 h. Strain produces antibiotic virginiamycine showing activity 650 U/ml at the end of fermentation. EFFECT: enhanced production of antibiotic.
