FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: method involves the steps of placing an article to be treated in a working gas and simultaneously heating to a temperature above hardening temperature and applying force to the article treated surface by pulsed compression and expansion of the working gas. A device for effecting the method provides pulsed compression and quick expansion of the working gaseous medium in a sealed pipe with the aid of a system of pistons so as to obtain required parameters of the working gas for strengthening and enhancing resistance to corrosion of articles. EFFECT: 1000 times enhanced efficiency, widened operation capabilities, 2-2.5 times enhanced wear-out resistance of treated articles compared with untreated ones. 4 cl, 2 dwg
