FIELD: determining degree of contamination of motor oils. SUBSTANCE: a beam of light with different length of wave (color) is passed through an oil sample and the level of opalescence (luminance of light cone) is used for assessing the qualitative and quantitative composition of impurities (with side-positioned photocell) and the efficiency of dope additives. The quantitative content of ferroparticles in operating motor oil is determined by an additional measuring circuit of the instrument by forming a shunt in the power field of a permanent magnet.
