FIELD: material regeneration. SUBSTANCE: method involves two-stage treatment of initial man-made or natural iron-containing materials by gaseous reducing agent. During first stage material is treated at a temperature of 250-350 C in humid exhaust gases generated as a result of final stage treatment to obtain intermediate product. Second stage treatment is conducted at a temperature of 350-450 C in purified hydrocarbon-containing gas. EFFECT: enhanced regeneration capability. 2 dwg, 1 tbl
