FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: method involves steps of securing the ends of a specimen, measuring the specific volume resistance ρ1 of the specimen, releasing one of the specimen ends, deforming this end by torsion, securing both ends of the specimen, compressing transversely the specimen, measuring the specific volume resistance (ρ2) of the specimen, calculating the brittleness index (Bk) from the formula Bk=(ρ2-ρ1)/ρ1.
