FIELD: providing fireproof coatings on plastic articles. SUBSTANCE: surface of articles made of organoplastics and glass-fibre-reinforced plastics is prepared to provide a rough carbonized layer on it having no deepened cracks. The method involves the repeated attacks initiated to the articles surface by heat impulses having one time impulse duration of 30 sec. The improvement in preparing surface comprises producing a carbonized layer on it. On the surface of organoplastic articles the carbonized layer is produced by 4-6-multiple attacks initiated by the heat impulses having a power density of 38-40 W/cm2. On the surface of the glass-fibre-reinforced plastics the carbonized layer is produced by a preliminary applying a coating on it including a stimulant for carbonization or by a preliminary introducing the stimulant into the glass-fibre-reinforced plastic as the article is being formed of it. The 6-multiple heat attack is initiated under power density of 48-50 and of 46-48 W/cm2 respectively. EFFECT: improved quality of fireproof layer. 4 cl, 1 tbl
