FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: mixture of process oxygen and Vanyukov furnace off-gas was used as blast gas to step up through extraction of sulfur from gases in melting and enhance ecological safety of method of continuously processing sulfides. Before preparation of blast gas was actually started, effluent gases were freed of dust, sulfur vapors and water and then compressed to pressure of 1.2 to 1.5 gage atm. Inserting above mixture into melt, with oxygen and sulfurous anhydride being in the ratio of 0.5 to 1.0, allowed using sulfurous anhydride as oxidant, raising content of elemental sulfur in off-gases and extracting sulfur without resorting to carbon-containing reducing agent. Part of gases with high concentration of sulfurous anhydride was routed for reduction to elemental sulfur by one of the methods already known in the art with maintaining content of sulfurous anhydride in off-gases, after reduction to elemental sulfur was completed, at level of about 5 % .
