FIELD: measuring equipment. SUBSTANCE: method involves irradiating reference samples of materials with atomic numbers approaching closely those of the coating material with bunches of beta radiation with energies E1 and E2, recording each time the intensities of backscatter beta radiation. The bunch with boundary energy E1 is selected on the condition of ensuring saturation intensity of backscatter flow of beta radiation. Intensity n∞(E2) of saturated flow of backscatter radiation with boundary energy E2 from coating material is determined by recording the flows with boundary energies E1 and E2 from reference samples and recording the flow E1 from test article. Normalized signal is calculated by the relation submitted in the description. Thickness of coating is found from the graduating characteristic of thickness gauge. EFFECT: higher accuracy of measuring thickness of multicomponent coating of variable composition. 1 dwg
