FIELD: engine manufacture. SUBSTANCE: method involves correcting defects of crankshaft journals by mechanical removal of hardened metal layer and installing special bearing shells on machined shaft journals. Steel back of shells is coated with antifriction alloy. Their internal surfaces are provided with helical grooves arranged at a small helix angle and filled with a relatively soft bearing material. Relation of width of antifriction alloy bridges between grooves to their pitch diminishes from shell center to their ends while depth of grooves increases in the same direction in accordance with a hyperbolic dependence. EFFECT: improved functional and operating characteristics. 2 cl, 3 dwg
